Metal Fabrication & Welding Technician (Levels I–III)

Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Starts at $20.00/Hour 

Compensation Note: Final pay rate will be determined based on overall welding test performance, demonstrated skills, and relevant experience. 

Position Overview

We are seeking motivated Metal Fabrication & Welding Technicians to support manufacturing and fabrication operations in a production-focused environment. Opportunities are available for multiple skill levels, allowing candidates to demonstrate their welding capabilities and advance based on experience, technical proficiency, and quality performance.

This role involves welding, fabrication, assembly, finishing, inspection, and equipment maintenance while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding operations using MIG, TIG, wire-feed, spot-welding, and oxy-fuel equipment
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair metal components according to engineering drawings and production requirements
  • Weld structural assemblies including frames, fuel tanks, I-beams, and related fabricated products in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Position, align, clamp, tack, drill, tap, cut, mill, and fasten components to achieve required configurations
  • Set up workpieces and layouts using hand tools, measuring devices, and material-handling equipment
  • Clean, grind, and finish welds to meet appearance and quality standards
  • Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy, weld integrity, and compliance with specifications
  • Perform weld repairs and rework when required
  • Assist with pressure testing activities and make necessary corrections when deficiencies are identified
  • Identify defects in products, equipment, or tooling and communicate concerns promptly
  • Operate grinders, sanders, wire wheels, and other fabrication equipment safely and effectively
  • Change welding wire, shielding gas, and consumables as needed
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and maintain welding machines in proper working condition
  • Report maintenance concerns and equipment issues to appropriate personnel
  • Complete assigned work within established production and quality targets
  • Record labor hours and completed work accurately using company timekeeping processes
  • Communicate material shortages, quality concerns, safety issues, and production obstacles to supervisors
  • Support cross-functional operations and assist with additional manufacturing tasks when needed
  • Follow all workplace safety requirements and continuous-improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic math skills and ability to work with measurement tools
  • Experience operating welding and fabrication equipment
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives
  • Previous welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • MIG Welding Certification
  • TIG Welding Certification
  • Vocational training, trade school education, or formal welding instruction
  • Experience with fabrication tools and metalworking processes
