We're rebuilding how the world constructs homes. We need someone who can engineer every piece of it.

About ZURU Tech

ZURU Tech is on a mission to digitalize construction — building the world's first BIM software that takes a home from your screen to your street. You design it. We build it.

We're rebuilding the housing system from the ground up, redesigning every aspect along the way. This isn't iteration — it's a full reinvention of how the world builds homes.

Part of the broader ZURU Group, ZURU Tech has grown rapidly across 120+ markets. We don't just improve the construction process — we're replacing it. Fueling that vision is a highly innovative, well-funded team moving at startup pace — with the resources and reach of a global company behind it.

We build with extraordinary people. If you think the product sounds remarkable, wait until you meet the team.

Position Overview:

  • ZURU House is a fully integrated modular prefabricated housing system — and this role owns the mechanical engineering at its core. As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll lead the design and development of products within the system, working across teams in New Zealand, Los Angeles, China, and Italy, from concept through to compliance.

Position Impact:

  • In the first 3–6 months, you'll take ownership of your product within the building system, build a clear picture of how your design decisions affect adjacent products, and establish direct working relationships with cross-functional leads across the globe. Initial designs will be ready for small-scale testing or test builds.

  • By 12 months, you'll have full technical and compliance ownership of your product — from manufacture and shipping through to installation and long-term use — with multiple test cycles, design improvements, and the ability to lead cross-functional delivery independently.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Design

  • Develop mechanical components for the ZURU House in SolidWorks, working across structural, MEP, and facade product categories.

  • Own the full design cycle from concept through to manufacture-ready outputs.

2. Prototyping & Testing

  • Build and test in-house prototypes, document results, and iterate based on findings.

  • Drive multiple test cycles with a clear track record of design improvement.

3. System Integration

  • Map how design changes impact adjacent areas of the building system.

  • Collaborate closely with owners of connected products to manage dependencies before they become problems.

4. Compliance & Standards

  • Work with compliance specialists to ensure all designs meet relevant building codes and standards for each target market.

  • Build compliance in from the start — not retrofitted at the end.

5. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate across the China manufacturing team, LA industrial design team, NZ engineering team, and Italian proprietary software team.

  • Align on design intent and delivery timelines across multiple time zones.

6. Manufacturing & Development

  • Resolve product manufacturing challenges and review design integration into the full building system.

  • Develop products through testing and into manufacture stages with minimal hand-holding.

7. Technical Documentation

  • Maintain system documentation including design specs, test records, and change logs.

  • Write clearly — for engineers, not just for folders.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • 5+ years in mechanical product development across any industry

  • Proficient in SolidWorks — manufacture-ready 3D designs, independently

  • Proven track record from concept through to tested, manufacture-ready solutions

  • Familiarity with product compliance and building or technical standards — beneficial but not a dealbreaker
