What if your job was to genuinely make someone's working life easier?

At Phocas, that's exactly what we do. Our customers are real businesses (manufacturers, distributors, retailers) trying to make sense of their data so they can make better decisions. We care deeply about their problems, and we build software that actually solves them.

We're a 300-person company with twenty years of history in data and financial analytics, headquartered in Sydney with a world-class development team right here in Christchurch. But what makes us different isn't our size or our history. It's how we work. We're curious, collaborative, and genuinely invested in getting things right for the people who use our products. We care about understanding the problem deeply, making good design decisions, and building solutions that are maintainable, reliable, and something our customers can’t live without.

We're looking for people who think the same way to join our 2026 Graduate Programme.

We use AI tools to accelerate how we work: exploring ideas, generating options, writing code, and reducing repetitive tasks. But we’re deliberate about how we use them. As a graduate, you’ll learn how to use AI tools effectively and with a critical eye. You’ll see where they add value, and where they don’t. At the same time, you’ll build strong foundations in software engineering. That means writing some code yourself, understanding systems and trade-offs, and learning how things actually work under the hood.

In this role you'll rotate across four product teams in your first two years, working on diverse products with a wide range of tools and technologies. You'll have the space to find where your strengths lie, and the support to develop them.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Recently graduated or is about to graduate with a degree in software engineering, computer science or similar
  • Is genuinely curious: about customers, about technology, and about finding better ways to solve hard problems
  • Approaches problems creatively, not just by reaching for the obvious solution
  • Knows how to use AI tools effectively, applying them with good judgment rather than just enthusiasm
  • Has experience with modern web and UI-oriented languages and frameworks
  • Communicates with empathy and loves working with others
  • Has a growth mindset and a real appetite for learning

We expect candidates to start in November or early December 2026.
