Senior Communications Strategist at WPP Media

As WPP Media Denmark strengthens its strategic advisory offering, we are seeking a Senior Communications strategist to help our clients identify commercial opportunities through communication and translate them into clear strategic direction and long-term market impact.  

In this role, you will develop and deploy business, brand, and communication strategies grounded in WPP Media's advanced tools, data, and services. Your mandate is to address and solve our clients’ core business challenges by bridging high-level business strategy with practical, effective marketing execution that meets consumer needs and drives growth. 

This is a senior strategic position focused on solving business problems, shaping competitive positions, and enabling organizations to make better communication decisions that create relevance and commercial impact.

The mandate 

Your role is to identify and define strategic communication pathways. This requires commercial judgment, intellectual range, and the confidence to challenge established thinking around how brands connect with people. From early problem framing to defining the strategic platform, you create clarity. You structure complex discussions, lead decision-making processes, and help organizations commit to direction – even when data is abundant, perspectives differ, and stakes are high.  

You will work closely with senior client stakeholders to understand growth drivers across category dynamics, offers, and brand perception through communication. You will craft coherent strategic narratives that enable focused execution across disciplines and over time. 

The role includes designing and leading strategic workshops, facilitating alignment, building belief at senior levels, and constructively challenging client briefs. You will formulate clear, insight-led briefs for the creative team, set strategic direction for creative concepts and communication, and ensure strategic adherence throughout execution in close collaboration with the creative team. You will also represent strategic direction externally through presentations to leadership teams, internal audiences, and industry forums.

Additionally, your mandate involves:

  • Leading the development and execution of insight-led communication strategies for our clients, aligning with business objectives. 
  • Partnering with clients to translate data and insights into actionable communication plans.
  • Managing direct client relationships and ensuring clear communication and collaboration throughout the strategy development process.
  • Integrating consumer insights into communication strategies, applying standardized insight frameworks, collaborating with data partners, and presenting insights to clients.
  • Developing elements of brand strategy, translating brand tracking and measurement data into communication implications, and supporting brand-led growth initiatives.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to integrate communication strategy into growth plans, supporting clients in identifying diversification opportunities, and tracking KPI alignment.
  • Guarding the strategy from insight to execution and measurement, ensuring focus on problem-solving and impact.

What this requires

  • A deep, experienced-based understanding of human behavior and decision-making, combining qualitative instinct with structured strategic thinking. 
  • Strong analytical discipline and confidence operating in data-rich environments – being able to interrogate evidence, recognize patterns, and synthesize inputs into decisive recommendations.
  • The ability to connect communication choices to commercial outcomes such as growth, relevance, pricing power, and competitive positioning.
  • Master's level business education or equivalent experience advising organisations on strategic direction.
  • Proven experience shaping communication strategies and platforms that influence both business priorities and integrated marketing execution.
  • Confidence operating at board and executive level, with the ability to challenge constructively and contribute to high-stakes strategic discussions.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience designing and leading workshops that drive decisions rather than simply generating inputs.
  • Clear presence and persuasive communication style. Comfortable presenting strategic direction and mobilising teams around a shared path forward.
  • Broad strategic capability across branding, communications, media, content, and customer experience.
  • A practical understanding of how data, technology, and AI are reshaping marketing and communication.

We expect you to demonstrate expertise as:

  • A Cultural Anthropologist and Trend-Spotter: You can decode cultural currents, mainstream trends, and subcultures for authentic brand participation. You understand consumer behavior, values, and media use beyond demographics, connecting people to brands across media. You anticipate cultural shifts, advising our clients to ensure brand relevance and avoid missteps.

  • A Media-Led Creative Catalyst: You possess a deep, structural understanding of media platforms' creative capabilities, knowing effective content across media. You can design omni-channel narratives for coherent, unique brand expression across touchpoints, creating integrated experiences. You collaborate with creative teams, inspiring ideas from consumer insights and media contexts.

  • An AI and Technology Futurist: You are at the forefront of leveraging AI tools for strategic advantage, including rapid data synthesis, consumer pattern identification, and synthetic audience creation. You understand how technology enhances creative opportunities and scalability, strategically leveraging it and AI to deliver authentic, personalized messages consistent with brand strategy. You explore emerging technologies (e.g., AR, voice, new AI models), translating their potential into creative and media opportunities for our clients.

Furthermore, we expect you to:

  • Have a background from both advertising and media agencies, along with approximately 10-15 years of relevant experience, is highly desired.
  • Guide and support junior strategists, fostering their development and ensuring quality deliverables.
  • Apply AI tools, WPP bespoke technology solutions, and standardized planning frameworks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of communication strategy.

The team consists of approximately 8 Comms Strategists, each contributing their distinct strengths. Our profiles range from business strategists and deep insight analysts to creative strategists and entrepreneurial thinkers. We boast a broad spectrum of expertise, drawing professionals from both media and creative agencies. The age range is broad, and the energy level is high. We are curious, inquisitive, and eager to deliver excellent, creative communication with strong professional integrity. The Comms. Strategy Team is a part of WPP Media’s Strategy & Growth team, comprising Comms Strategists, New Business, Growth, Media Strategy & Innovation, and Marketing.
