UBDS Group is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer (Azure) to support the design, migration, and optimisation of enterprise workloads within Microsoft Azure. This role will focus on migrating traditional on-premises file services and applications into cloud-native or cloud-optimised solutions, working closely with application teams throughout discovery, migration, and testing phases.
You will play a key role in analysing existing environments, implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and ensuring secure, scalable, and well-documented cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the migration of traditional SMB file shares from on-premises file servers to Azure
- Design and implement solutions using Azure Storage and Azure Files
- Conduct application and workload discovery, including dependency mapping
- Collaborate closely with application teams to plan and execute migration and testing activities
- Analyse existing applications and recommend suitable Azure architectures
- Implement infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Maintain and contribute to technical documentation across all stages of delivery
- Ensure correct handling and migration of NTFS permissions and access controls
- Participate in validation, testing, and post-migration support activities
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly:
- Azure Storage
- Azure Files
- Proven experience migrating on-prem file shares (SMB) to Azure
- Hands-on experience with Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
- Solid understanding of NTFS file permissions
- Experience performing application/workload discovery and analysis
- Ability to assess application dependencies and migration impacts
- Experience working collaboratively with application stakeholders
- Strong documentation skills
Desirable Skills
- Experience with GitLab or similar version control platforms
- Knowledge of DFS (Distributed File System)
- Familiarity with enterprise-scale migration programmes
