2IM Group LLC. is now part of MacKay Sposito, and we are looking for an experienced Construction Inspector to join our team and gain experience in public roadway heavy infrastructure construction, in the Chicagoland region. 

As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for physical on-site observation, documentation, and verification of construction projects within the Chicagoland area to assess and ensure compliance with applicable contract plans and specifications, and applicable codes and regulations. Typical project assignments include asphalt and concrete paving, structural concrete, retaining and barrier walls, barricades, guardrails, fences, utilities, sewer systems, earthwork, and bridge construction.

The position will require passing the IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities course.  A valid Illinois driver's license and Personal Protective Equipment (steel-toe work boots, work pants, work shirt, prescription safety glasses, cold-weather gear, and hearing protection) will be required of the applicant.  The applicant will need to be able to traverse rough and/or hilly terrain on foot, as well as stand outdoors in varying temperatures, ranging from very cold to very hot, for extended periods. Company-provided PPE includes a vehicle with safety lights, a safety vest, safety glasses, and a hard hat.  Field measuring equipment will be provided.  

Keys to Success:

  • Monitoring construction daily for conformance with construction contract documents.
  • Observing and reporting on a variety of work, including installation of highway road improvements, underground utilities, maintenance of traffic, erosion and sediment controls, and site infrastructure for building facilities.
  • Reviewing schedules, shop drawings, submittals, and schedule of values while consulting with a construction manager or Resident Engineer.
  • Preparing daily reports in a timely manner, completely and accurately, documenting all work observed.
  • Attending various construction meetings, as required.
  • Managing and answering contractor inquiries and issues.
  • Communicating and following up on the project's progress with oral and/or written reports, including pertinent photos, to the construction manager.
  • Executing job-specific quality assurance tasks.
  • Tracking labor and equipment for possible T&M contract work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least one year of construction inspection experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read, understand, and verify the implementation of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe.  
  • Current driver’s license with a clean record and the ability to be insured to drive company vehicles.
  • Must be able to walk, lift, carry, stoop, bend, twist, and work outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely. Site visits may include exposure to weather extremes and rough or uneven terrain.
  • The ability to use smartphone applications for communicating is required
  • Advanced mathematical abilities and use of geometry to calculate areas, volumes, and distances in the field and on documentation. 

Preferred qualifications:

  • 15 or more years of construction inspection experience.
  • Proficiency using Construction Management program(s) preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or  NICET Certification (Construction) preferred.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.

US Pay Range
$33$60 USD

Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefit package including access to our company-sponsored Medical (including an HSA High Deductible option), Dental, Vision, FSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. We also offer 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401(k) plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees receive paid vacation and sick time, 11 paid holidays, and are able to participate in employee ownership options. MacKay pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual performance bonuses.
