Who We Are
Emergence is a thematic holding company backed by the Pritzker Organization focused exclusively on acquiring and scaling category-defining software businesses. We invest in focused portfolios, specialized operating groups with deep domain expertise and proven playbooks. Emergence combines operational rigor with a growth equity mindset, driving sustainable ARR growth, profitability improvements, and industry-leading customer outcomes.
The Mission
You're building the infrastructure foundation that runs across a growing portfolio of B2B SaaS companies - not just maintaining existing pipelines, but designing the system from the ground up and making it production-ready for a team that ships fast.
What You'll Do
Own and evolve cloud infrastructure on AWS - ECS Fargate, ECR, ALB, VPC, and Secrets Manager - provisioned through Terraform or AWS CDK
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions - Docker image builds, rolling deployments with health checks, and rollback procedures
Manage the containerized production stack - Node 20, Express 5, BullMQ, Valkey, and Neon Postgres via pgBouncer
Own observability end to end - Grafana, Loki, Promtail, and CloudWatch - with alerting that catches issues before users report them
Define and enforce environment strategy - dev, staging, and production with proper isolation, branch protection, and deployment governance
Harden security posture - IAM scoping, AWS Secrets Manager, dependency scanning in CI, and SSL/TLS across all services
Maintain Linux VPS and Windows Server infrastructure running Python automation services via systemd and NSSM
Write runbooks, disaster recovery procedures, and incident response playbooks for all critical services
What We're Looking For
Must-haves
5+ years of hands-on production DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE experience
Shipped and maintained IaC using Terraform or AWS CDK on real production systems
Designed CI/CD pipelines from scratch - not just maintained existing ones
Managed containerized workloads in production using Docker and AWS ECS
Owned an observability stack - structured logging, dashboards, and alerting - not just set it up
Hardened a production environment - secrets management, IAM policies, dependency scanning, SSL/TLS
Administered Linux servers in production - system design, process management, server hardening
Responded to and led resolution of production incidents with documented post-mortems
Nice-to-haves
PostgreSQL operations - connection pooling, pgBouncer, Neon serverless
BullMQ or Redis/Valkey in production
Windows Server administration - NSSM, Task Scheduler
Snyk, Trivy, or equivalent dependency scanning in CI
AWS Solutions Architect or equivalent certification
Who You Are
You've spent your career making infrastructure serve engineering teams, not the other way around. You write IaC from day one and build staging environments without being asked. You write runbooks before declaring a service production-ready. You've inherited broken infrastructure and measurably improved it. You care deeply about reliability and won't ship infrastructure you don't trust. You make architectural recommendations, not just implementation calls and you push back when the right answer is to simplify rather than build.
What We Offer
Competitive salary
Ownership to define and decide infrastructure across Central and PortCos workstreams
100% remote with flexible hours and async-first culture
Professional development budget for AWS certifications and relevant tooling
Exposure to multiple SaaS businesses and scaling challenges across the portfolio
