Hi! 👋 I'm Garib, CTO and one of the founders of WeTravel. Travel brings people together, and technology makes that possible at scale. At WeTravel, we’re building the systems, tools, and engineering culture that empower teams to innovate quickly and support travel businesses around the world. We build technology that helps handle the heavy lifting behind organizing travel, so organizers can focus on creating amazing experiences for their travelers.

About WeTravel

Think of the most incredible adventures imaginable: trekking to Machu Picchu, cycling through Tuscany, or going on a safari in Kenya. For years, the small businesses and local experts who run these trips have been stuck using messy spreadsheets, countless emails, and complicated payment methods.

WeTravel is changing that. We build the tools that empower any entrepreneur to launch and grow their own travel business. Our platform makes it simple for organizers to create beautiful trip proposals, securely process payments, and manage their customers, so they can focus on what they do best: creating amazing experiences.

This is one of the last great frontiers of travel to come online, and as the category leader, we are at the forefront of this change. Last year alone, our platform was trusted by 8,000 organizers to lead over a million travelers on adventures in 150+ countries. Now, we’re on an exciting journey to grow from powering $1B to $10B in travel experiences per year.

We believe that every trip, when done right, can be a force for good - and we’re building the engine to make more of that possible.

What’s the role

As an Engineering Leader of the platform, you will own the infrastructure, reliability, and developer experience that underpin all of WeTravel’s product engineering. You will lead and scale our platform team, currently a small, high-impact squad, into a mature function that delivers world-class availability, security, and operational excellence. Reporting directly to the CTO, you’ll shape the technical foundation for our next phase of growth.

What You’ll do day-to-day
  • Infrastructure & Cloud: Architect and manage our AWS environment for scalability, cost efficiency, and multi-region readiness. Drive Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and modern cloud-native practices.

  • Reliability & SRE: Expand WeTravel’s a reliability program from the ground up, define the platform SLIs/SLOs, improve our incident response (incident.io) observability (Datadog, Sentry) capabilities, and lead the reduction of MTTR from hours to minutes.

  • Security & Compliance: Define and own platform security posture, support SOC 2 certification, PCI-DSS compliance, and drive security automation across the SDLC.

  • Developer Experience: Build a world class developer experience with the internal platforms, CI/CD, and tooling that will multiply the impact of our product engineers. Champion "paved roads" over gatekeeping.

  • IT Operations: Oversee internal IT team and infrastructure, tooling, and access management to ensure the team has the secure, reliable systems they need to do their best work.

  • Team Leadership: Grow and mentor the platform engineering team. Hire senior SREs and platform engineers. Set a high bar for operational maturity and engineering craft.

  • Technical Strategy: Partner with the CTO and VP of Engineering to define the platform roadmap.

How we work
  • We’re focused on the impact. We don’t subscribe to any one framework or execution ideology, and we adapt based on what’s impactful.

  • We’re using the latest hardware and constantly on the look out for better tools & ways to work

  • Stack: We’re using React/ReactNative/TypeScript + Ruby on Rails and Python Microservices on Kubernetes. We also use and love MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, Snowflake and we’re working with the major LLM providers.

You should apply if you have

Basic qualifications:

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with AWS, containerization, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code.

  • 4+ years of experience leading teams: you’ve built, hired for, and scaled platform teams.

  • Proven track record of designing reliability programs (SLIs/SLOs, on-call, incident management) at scale.

  • Experience with security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, PCI-DSS) in a SaaS/fintech context.

  • Excellent communication skills, you translate infrastructure complexity into business impact for leadership.

  • Startup or scale-up mindset: pragmatic, hands-on when needed, bias toward action.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Leading platform teams in a consumer facing industry
