The area is led by Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Flemming Konradsen, and consists of approximately 60 dedicated colleagues placed in six different departments working passionately towards the prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic and infectious disease, creating breakthroughs in regenerative medicine to treat or cure chronic disease, and improving equity in health.
About the Department
The Biomedical Research department supports the entire spectrum of fundamental biomedical research from molecular biology to studies in animal and human models. We oversee a range of open calls and programmes, most notably the Bioscience & Basic Biomedicine, and Endocrinology & Metabolism research grants. Additionally, we design and develop large strategic initiatives, supporting international collaborative research, infrastructure and technology, and research centres. Within regenerative medicine, we oversee the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW), and the Regenerative Medicine Catalyst Grants, among others. There are currently 13 employees in our department, and we strive to maintain a highly collaborative, psychologically safe work environment, and build on individual strengths to deliver the best possible results.
The Job
As Senior Scientific Manager you work closely with colleagues within the department and across the organisation on the evaluation, development, implementation, and execution of exciting new grant initiatives within biomedical research.
As part of the Biomedical Research department, you will:
- design, implement, and manage new funding programmes in open competition
- follow up and evaluate existing funding programmes and research centres
- stay up to date within the biomedical research fields, which includes analysing received applications, reading relevant scientific papers, and participating in scientific conferences
- participate in the development of large strategic funding initiatives within the Biomedical Research department as well as in cross-organisational project teams
- employ scientific as well as project management knowledge and tools in the design and development of funding programmes
- work closely with external key opinion leaders and collaborators
- formulate reports, recommendations, and other written documents clearly and professionally
Professional and personal qualifications
We are looking for a Senior Scientific Manager with the following qualifications:
- substantial research experience as postdoc, assistant or associate professor, or similar career level (e.g. in industry), within regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, or cell therapy development
- a PhD degree within fundamental and/or translational molecular biology or biomedical research
- experience with managing own research and projects
- confidence in presenting orally to a broad range of audiences
- excellent written and verbal English skills
It will be advantageous if you have experience with:
- international research environments and collaborations
- the European regenerative medicine ecosystem and broad knowledge of the cell therapy development value chain
- interdisciplinary research
- project management tools
