Role Summary and Impact
We are looking for a Media Solutions Engagement Manager to join our team. This is a senior hybrid role that combines strategic programmatic leadership with high-impact client engagement and solution advocacy. You will lead programmatic planning, execution, analysis, and insights across WPP Media, while owning and driving strong relationships with WPP agencies and clients. You will also play a key role in mentoring and developing junior team members, contributing to a high-performing and collaborative team culture. Responsibilities of the role:
Programmatic Strategy & Leadership:
- Lead and oversee the strategic use of platforms including Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager, The Trade Desk, AppNexus, Google Analytics, and others.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert in Programmatic Buying, including DSPs/SSPs, RTB, ad exchanges, DMPs, and advanced audience targeting strategies.
- Own the end-to-end campaign lifecycle across multiple accounts, ensuring best-in-class execution, accuracy, and adherence to industry standards.
- Review and approve campaign briefs, providing strategic direction on programmatic media plans to deliver against client objectives.
- Lead the identification and implementation of optimisation opportunities (e.g., audience, supply source, temporal, frequency, geo, creative) across all assigned accounts.
- Take full accountability for campaign budget management, pacing, and performance delivery, ensuring targets are consistently met or exceeded.
- Translate campaign data and insights into actionable strategic recommendations, elevating the quality of reporting and analysis across the team.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the programmatic ecosystem, including Brand Safety, Viewability, Ad Fraud, and emerging industry trends.
- Drive the execution and evaluation of various programmatic deal types, identifying opportunities to test and scale new approaches.
Client & Agency Relationship Management:
- Own and cultivate senior-level relationships with WPP agencies and clients, positioning yourself as a trusted strategic advisor and primary escalation point.
- Champion WPP Media's digital solutions portfolio, proactively identifying opportunities to grow and expand client partnerships.
- Lead the translation of complex agency/client needs into robust media plans and programmatic strategies.
- Collaborate closely with client and market teams to ensure seamless delivery across briefing, booking, setup, optimisation, and reporting workflows.
- Lead the development and presentation of strategic campaign reports, delivering actionable insights that influence planning and buying decisions at a senior level.
- Oversee and govern sales administration processes, ensuring consistency, compliance, and best practices across the team.
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships with creative agencies and ad operations teams to drive effective campaign execution.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Executives and/or Analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance.
- Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support career development for direct reports.
- Lead by example in workflow management, prioritisation, and quality of output, ensuring SLAs and deadlines are consistently upheld across the team.
- Facilitate regular WIP meetings, driving meaningful discussion around campaign performance, challenges, and strategic opportunities.
- Partner with senior leadership to identify resourcing needs, process improvements, and team capability gaps.
Measures of Success
In three months:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of WPP Media's clients, brands, products, and programmatic landscape.
- Establish credibility and build strong working relationships with client teams, market teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Conduct a full audit of current processes and workflows, identifying early opportunities for improvement.
- Begin onboarding and supporting direct reports, establishing clear team expectations.
In six months:
- Be recognised as a trusted strategic partner by client and agency teams.
- Demonstrate measurable improvement in campaign performance across assigned accounts.
- Successfully lead and develop your team, with evidence of capability uplift and strong team engagement.
- Drive proactive optimisation strategies and contribute to broader programmatic best practices.
In 12 months:
- Establish yourself as a key strategic contributor to future planning discussions for assigned agencies and accounts.
- Identify and implement scalable process improvements that drive efficiency and performance across the team.
- Demonstrate a track record of growing client relationships and expanding the scope of WPP Media's solutions within your accounts.
- Contribute to wider business development and thought leadership initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4+ years of professional experience in digital media, with a strong background in programmatic, preferably within a media agency, trading desk, or ad network.
- Deep hands-on expertise in programmatic strategy, optimisation, and campaign management.
- Strong understanding of Ad Servers, DSPs/SSPs, RTB, ad exchanges, DMPs, audience targeting, Brand Safety, Viewability, and Ad Fraud.
- Demonstrated ability to manage senior client relationships and act as a strategic advisor.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional analytical skills with strong commercial and numerical acuity.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly organised, solutions-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with ad serving technology is highly desirable.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to connect data-driven insights to broader business outcomes.
