The NETGEAR Product Design team is a group of highly skilled cross-disciplinary designers working together across continents and cultures in a friendly, fast-paced, and inspiring environment. We design and deliver technology products to a wide range of customers under our brands: Orbi, Nighthawk, and NETGEAR.
As a member of the Product Design team, you will lead the design, testing, performance, documentation, and production of networking hardware for retail and small business markets. These are high-volume products manufactured in Asia, and the successful candidate will manage the design and tooling of plastic and metal enclosures from concept through production for home and small-to-medium office use.
This is a hybrid role, expected to be onsite 3 days a week in our Richmond, BC office.
Key Responsibilities
Design, evaluate, test, document, and improve products and components.
Work closely with the product design team, product marketing, internal industrial design and mechanical engineering teams, and ODM partners to create new products or customize existing ones.
Take a leadership role to ensure project goals for performance, cost, and schedule are met.
Collaborate closely with second- and third-tier suppliers.
Manage outside consultants and fabrication vendors.
Travel internationally as required.
Required Qualifications
BSME or equivalent experience.
Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals required.
Minimum 5-6 years of experience in Product Design and/or mechanical engineering in computer hardware or a similar consumer-oriented field (can include relevant internship experience).
In-depth knowledge of Creo/PTC software, including demonstrable skills in creating complex surfaces, parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Understanding of die casting, plastics, adhesives, stamping, machining, and rapid prototyping.
Understanding of tolerance analysis.
Expertise in plastic injection molding design.
Extensive design experience with high-volume, low-cost products.
Experience with Agile database systems is a plus.
Effective leadership, organization, and project management skills.
Proven ability and willingness to take ownership of projects and get the job done with minimal supervision.
Experience successfully leading projects through pilot, mass production, and beyond.
Self-starter who works well on a team.
