AI Engineer Intern – Job Description
About the Role
As an AI Engineer Intern at bswift, you will support the design and development of AI-driven solutions in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. This opportunity is ideal for candidates who are curious about Artificial Intelligence, possess foundational knowledge in machine learning and software development, and are eager to learn how modern AI technologies are applied within enterprise healthcare and benefits administration.
We are looking for individuals with strong fundamentals, a growth mindset, and a genuine passion for AI. Interns will work closely with experienced AI engineers and contribute to real-world projects that impact thousands of users.
Key Responsibilities
AI Solution Development & Support
- Assist in the development and testing of AI solutions leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI technologies under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Support the creation and experimentation of agentic systems and automation workflows for HR and benefits administration use cases.
- Evaluate AI tools, APIs, and frameworks, and share findings with the team.
- Contribute to integrating AI capabilities into bswift’s product ecosystem.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and data teams to understand AI use cases within benefits technology.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and team discussions.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and learnings effectively with team members.
Infrastructure & Development
- Support cloud-based AI infrastructure tasks on AWS or similar platforms with mentorship from senior engineers.
- Assist in setting up, maintaining, and documenting development environments and CI/CD pipelines.
- Learn and apply best practices for deploying and maintaining AI systems.
Quality Assurance & Testing
- Help develop unit tests and validation scripts to ensure AI solution reliability and correctness.
- Document experiments, test outcomes, and technical learnings for knowledge sharing.
- Assist in identifying and reporting issues related to model or system behavior.
Monitoring & Observability
- Support monitoring and reporting activities to track AI system health and performance.
- Learn to work with observability and logging tools under guidance.
- Help document anomalies, trends, and performance insights from AI deployments.
Knowledge, Education & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
OR
Holds a recognized certification/course completion in AI or Data Science from reputed platforms or institutions such as Coursera, edX, Google, AWS, deeplearning.ai, or equivalent. - Basic understanding of machine learning concepts, including supervised/unsupervised learning, model training, and evaluation.
- Foundational Python programming skills with the ability to read, write, and debug basic scripts.
- Conceptual understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT, Claude, or similar technologies.
- Basic familiarity with SQL and data querying.
- Familiarity with Git/version control systems.
- Strong curiosity, eagerness to learn, and a growth mindset.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have (Optional)
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP through coursework or personal projects.
- Basic understanding of REST APIs and API integrations.
- Awareness of frameworks and concepts such as LangChain, vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Exposure to Agile software development methodologies.
- Personal projects, academic projects, or hackathon experience related to AI/ML.
What You Will Learn
This internship is designed to provide practical, hands-on exposure to enterprise AI engineering. During the internship, you will gain experience in:
- Working with production-grade LLM APIs and agentic AI frameworks.
- Building and deploying AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Contributing to AI-powered features used in real-world healthcare and benefits systems.
- Strengthening your understanding of RAG architectures, vector databases, and prompt engineering.
- Collaborating within Agile engineering teams and cross-functional environments.
