Your Role as a Drawing Controls Specialist
As a Drawing Controls Specialist at Thompson Thrift, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality, accuracy, and constructability of construction drawings across multifamily construction projects. Working within the preconstruction and design coordination process, you’ll collaborate with internal teams to reduce RFIs, improve plan alignment, and support efficient project execution.
This role is ideal for construction professionals with experience in drawing review, design coordination, or quality control who want to make a direct impact on project outcomes before and during construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings and compare against prototype plans to ensure consistency and compliance
- Identify discrepancies and recommend practical, cost-effective improvements
- Collaborate with design, quality control, and project teams to align drawings with project requirements
- Participate in drawing review and quality control meetings to support construction readiness
- Review and support RFIs related to drawing coordination and controls
- Track and manage drawing issues, updates, and resolutions using Procore or similar systems
- Assist in researching construction materials, products, and specifications to support decision-making
- Contribute to improving drawing control processes, workflows, and efficiencies
- Lead or participate in coordination meetings and document key outcomes and follow-ups
Our Ideal Candidate for this Role
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
Experience
- 4+ years of experience in construction, design coordination, preconstruction, or quality control
- Experience working with architectural drawings, construction documents, or plan review processes preferred
Skills & Attributes
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and building practices
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Experience with Procore or similar construction project management software preferred
- Self-starter who can work independently while contributing to team success
