Purpose of Role:
The Security Vetting Officer ensures that all personnel involved in ground handling operations meet Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) and airport security requirements. This role manages and oversees security clearance processes, protecting airport operations, sensitive information, and passenger safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personnel Vetting & Clearance:
- Conduct security vetting for ground handling staff, contractors, and temporary personnel.
- Verify identification, employment history, criminal records, and other required checks.
- Determine suitability for airport ID access, restricted areas, and sensitive operational roles.
- Compliance & Regulation:
- Ensure all vetting processes comply with Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), National Aviation Security Programme (NASP), GDPR, and relevant aviation regulations.
- Maintain awareness of changes to aviation security policies and industry best practices.
- Support audits and inspections related to security compliance.
- Record Management & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate, confidential vetting and personnel records.
- Prepare and submit reports to management on vetting outcomes and compliance metrics.
- Escalate any potential security risks or breaches promptly.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaise with HR, operations, airport authorities, airlines, and government agencies.
- Provide guidance and support to line managers on security requirements and clearance processes.
- Respond to queries from personnel regarding vetting status or procedures.
- Process Improvement:
- Continuously review and enhance vetting processes to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Participate in security awareness programs and training for staff.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum: Leaving Certificate; Bachelor’s degree in Security Studies, Aviation Management, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in security vetting, aviation security, or compliance is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) regulations, airport security standards, and GDPR.
- Understanding of airport operations, ground handling procedures, and restricted area access requirements.
Skills and Competencies:
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple vetting cases simultaneously.
- Proficiency in IT systems used for security and personnel management.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced aviation environment.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based at airport ground handling facilities with potential visits to operational areas.
- Standard working hours with flexibility for audits or urgent vetting needs.
- Interaction with sensitive personnel information and compliance documentation.
- May require security access to restricted areas (airport ID card).
Desirable Attributes:
- Previous experience with airport security clearance processes or aviation ground handling operations.
- Professional certification in security, risk management, or aviation safety.
- Familiarity with the National Aviation Security Programme (NASP) and airport ID issuance systems.
