The Mission of the Technical Sales Lead

In this role, you will directly support strategic sales engagements, provide technical leadership in proposals and customer interactions, and enhance our ability to scale through engineering excellence.

You’ll work at the intersection of customer needs and ICEYE’s capabilities, helping to craft compelling technical narratives that enable ICEYE to win data & mission contracts in the area of coverage of ICEYE Germany.

You will play a pivotal role in crafting high-quality responses to institutional and government tenders across Europe, working closely with ICEYE’s Sales, Product, and Engineering teams. Your background in European public procurement programs gives you the insight needed to align ICEYE’s cutting-edge technology with evolving mission requirements.

This role is especially focused on German government space programs and pertinent opportunities in adjacent countries as well as ESA, EU and NATO programs, where public procurement processes and programmatic collaboration are key to long-term success. You will act as a trusted technical advisor, crafting compelling solutions and proposals throughout the tender lifecycle.

You contribute to the entire lifecycle of the sales process, from engaging with prospect customers during the BD & pitching phase, organising targeted training sessions for customer and relevant stakeholders and driving an effective bidding process with a 360 remit.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

  • Own the technical win on every priority German pursuit.

  • Customer engagement throughout sales lifecycle

  • 360 management of bidding phase to ensure a highly effective and winning bid

  • Tailored technical solutions defined and delivered for large institutional tenders.

  • High-quality technical content delivered on time, aligned with ICEYE’s offering and customer expectations.

  • Recognized by Sales and BD as a trusted technical voice, pulled early into ESA/EU engagements.

  • Sales teams upskilled through technical training and improved collateral.

What we’re looking for

Must haves:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, Aerospace, Physics, or related field.

  2. 5+ years of experience in sales engineering, bid management, or pre-sales (ideally in NewSpace/defense).

  3. Direct experience delivering proposals into ESA, European Commission, or other institutional procurement programs.

  4. Strong understanding of SAR, space systems, EO missions, and mission design.

  5. Familiarity with ESA/EU tendering processes and ECSS standards.

  6. Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear, customer-aligned value propositions.

  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  8. Fluency in written and verbal communication in German.

  9. Strong problem-solving mindset, customer focus, and attention to detail.

  10. Proactive, accountable, and comfortable operating in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.

  11. Collaborative team player, able to build trust across internal and external stakeholders.

  12. Willingness to travel 20–30%.

  3. Technical case: a take-home mission design / revisit analysis exercise, presented and defended live to a panel including the Intel Lead and a member of the Missions engineering team (90 min)

  4. Cross-functional interviews with Product, and a senior ICEYE leader (2 × 45 min)
