This role sits within the Artnet Auctions Team.
The Role:
Artnet is the leading international platform to buy, sell, and research art online. We connect millions of collectors globally with the world’s leading galleries and auction houses, with a focus on making the art market more transparent while supporting our partners in growing their business online.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated associate to join the Artnet Auctions Team and support the Photographs department. Associates are responsible for enabling the success of Artnet Auctions & Private Sales through accurate lot cataloguing, thorough research, and a professional and courteous handling of each client.
We foster a uniquely collaborative environment in a forward-thinking art company and are constantly looking to improve our user experience and how we approach auctioning and collecting fine art today. You will be reporting directly to the Head of Photographs. Please note that this position is primarily remote but will require occasional in-person work in our New York City office.
Responsibilities:
Liaise with auction sellers to collect all necessary artwork information prior to sales
Catalog all lots for auction, thoroughly research artists and artworks, write and edit detailed lot descriptions, and assess and describe the artwork’s condition
Photograph artworks and edit images so they are ready for publication
Keep specialists apprised of upcoming deadlines for sales, artwork submissions, and marketing
Review seller histories for potential relists and new inventory
Schedule and lead pre-sale meetings
Create and maintain lot runners for all sales
Support client outreach with both buyers and sellers
Monitor bidding activity on live lots during the sale
Facilitate post-sale offers and private sales
Work with Sale Operations on any pre- and post-sale needs
Work closely with other associates to maintain consistency and share workload
Coordinate with department interns
Qualifications:
Minimum 1–2 years of cataloguing or relevant experience
BA in art history or related field, graduate degree a plus
Demonstrated knowledge and interest in contemporary and modern art – specifically photography
Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills
Ability to prioritize and multi-task in order to manage and meet simultaneous deadlines
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, revenue-driven environment
Experience editing images in Adobe Photoshop
Experience with InDesign
Must be exceptionally detail-oriented, pro-active, organized, and self-motivated
Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry
Foreign language skills a plus
Must be based in the New York/Tri-State Area.
