About the role 

The Rural Land Manager will play a crucial role in identifying suitable land opportunities, collaborating with landowners and agents, and overseeing the process of onboarding land for Habitat Bank creation and working with our delivery Team to create and manage the Habitat Banks on farms across England.

It is important that you live in the South of England to cover the sites easily - Northampton, Oxford, Reading would all be ideal.

The role requires effective communication, collaboration with internal teams, and engagement with external stakeholders such as farmers, landowners, and Local Authorities.

  • Identify and secure new land opportunities to develop Habitat Banks by engaging with landowners and agents.
  • Prioritise the establishment of Habitat Banks based on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) credit demand from Local Authorities and known purchaser interest, incorporating insights from the sales team.
  • Perform comprehensive due diligence to evaluate site suitability for Habitat Bank development, collaborating with internal departments such as ecology, project delivery, legal, and finance.
  • Guide sites through the internal governance processes, collecting and analysing data to support targeted Habitat Bank creation, including reviewing local plan policies, agri-environment schemes, and relevant market sector reports.
  • Collaborate within a project team to develop the Habitat, oversee capital works, and support the ongoing site management, maintaining regular communication with landowners.
  • Oversee and implement the planning and consent procedures necessary for habitat creation.
  • Represent the Environment Bank by participating in regional and national marketing events to advocate for Habitat Bank creation to farmers and landowners.
