About Us
Lorikeet is redefining what customer support looks like — and we're just getting started.
We build AI that handles complex, high-volume support for fintechs, healthtechs, marketplaces, and delivery services. Not chatbot-tier AI. The kind that actually resolves tickets, gives support teams their time back, and raises the bar for what software can do.
We're backed by over $50M USD from QED, Blackbird, and Square Peg, with backing from operators like Claire Hughes Johnson (ex-Stripe COO) and Cristina Cordova (Linear COO), plus founders of Canva, Atlassian, and Airwallex. We're the first company since Canva to be funded at early stage by all three of Australia's top VC funds — which tells you something about the calibre of people who've looked closely at what we're building and said yes.
Our customers include some of the largest telehealth, fintech, and marketplace companies in the US and Australia — many handling over a million support tickets a year. The problems are real, the scale is real, and the work matters.
If you want to build something that genuinely changes how businesses and customers interact — this is the place.
About the role
We're hiring Lorikeet's first dedicated People team member in Sydney, where ~40 of our ~65 people sit.
This isn't a narrow role. You'll be the on-the-ground extension of our People function — owning ways of working, people ops, culture, talent, employee experience and strategic initiatives working across our largest office. That includes driving how we adopt and embed frontier AI tools into how we work — and yes, it also means running in-office work trials and making sure the fridge is stocked. This role plays at all levels, and that's intentional.
This is a high-context, high-agency role dedicated to people, talent, and ways of working. You'll partner closely with our Head of Operations — standing up systems, running experiments, and solving problems that don't have a clear owner yet.
The essence of this role is filling high-priority gaps as they emerge: incubating new functions, pressure-testing ideas, and making things happen. A meaningful part of that is people and company-building — you'll help shape how we hire, onboard, and retain a world-class team, and how we show up as a company internally and externally. Sydney is our largest office and the culture here matters enormously.
This is the right role for someone who thrives on autonomy and wants to build. If that energizes you, you'll do well here.
This role is based at our Sydney HQ and is in-office.
About you
The right candidate is equal parts operator, strategist, and builder. You get energy from ambiguity, move quickly without sacrificing judgment, and can context-switch between tactical execution and big-picture thinking.
You might have 2–4 years of experience across consulting or an early-stage startup. What matters most is that you pick up new domains quickly, communicate clearly across functions, and take ownership of complex initiatives from day one.
High EQ — you read rooms well, build trust quickly, and notice things others miss
High agency — you see what needs doing and do it, without being asked twice
Low ego — genuinely comfortable doing unglamorous work, because you understand why it matters
What you'll do
Partner closely with the Head of Operations to scale our Sydney presence and support the broader business
Own key people and company-building work streams: think AI tool adoption, onboarding quality, company forums, and the rhythms that keep a fast-scaling team cohesive
Design and implement scrappy, high-leverage solutions to problems across company operations
Make fast, high-stakes decisions with limited structure or oversight
Take on cross-functional projects that sit between teams, and own them through to completion
You might be a fit if you:
Have owned high-impact projects in fast-paced environments — consulting, a venture-backed startup, or a generalist ops role
Have successfully launched new initiatives or processes from scratch — and brought people along with you (built an onboarding program, rolled out a new way of working, led a change management effort that actually stuck)
Have a genuine interest in people and culture — you notice when a team is thriving or struggling, and you care about doing something about it
Have managed relationships with key stakeholders and know how to navigate ambiguity, unblock people, and drive toward outcomes
Are excited by the chance to help build a category-defining AI company
What's unique about this opportunity?
A culture that's genuinely different. Low ego, high trust, no tolerance for talented jerks. We work efficiently, keep hours flexible, and actually mean it — because life outside work matters. We're committed to building a diverse team and actively encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds. We care far more about user obsession and eagerness to learn than traditional credentials.
A front-row seat to building something meaningful. We're Series A and moving fast. You'll have real scope to shape the product and the company — not just execute someone else's vision.
Performance recognized in real time, not on a calendar. Promotions happen when you're ready — leadership meets every six weeks specifically to identify and recognize strong performers, so you're never waiting for an arbitrary review window to move up.
We're AI-native, and we'll make you AI-native too. Every person at Lorikeet uses AI in their day-to-day work (current favourite: Claude Code), with unrestricted access and no usage limits. You'll leave with skills that matter for the next decade of work.
Twice a year, the whole company flies to Hawaii. Headquartered in Sydney, with teams spanning the US and UK — which means getting everyone in the same place is something we invest in seriously. We spend the time hacking on ideas, building things together that wouldn't otherwise exist, and making memories that remind you why you joined a startup in the first place.
A recruitment process built on respect, not hoops. We keep it simple: a couple of informal chats to share our story and hear yours, followed by a paid ~two-day work trial. The work trial is genuinely the best part — you'll work on real problems alongside the actual team, get a true feel for how we operate, and we'll both come out of it knowing whether this is the right fit. No trick questions, no take-homes that disappear into a void. Just real work, done together.
If you're from an underrepresented background and don't tick every box, please reach out anyway. We know firsthand that diverse teams perform better, and we're proud that our team reflects a broad spectrum of identities and lived experiences.
