What we’re looking for…
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Environmental Advisor to join our team. Based primarily at our Milton Keynes site, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our operational teams in ensuring compliance with legal requirements, company policy, and best practices in Environmental activities.
This isn't just a "box-ticking" exercise; you will be a visible leader, driving real change and ensuring every member of our team understands and supports our Environmental Compliance requirements and initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include...
As our Environmental Advisor, your responsibilities will include but not limited to
- Expert Guidance: Support and advise internal stakeholders on the interpretation and implementation of our company environmental policies, standards, and statutory provisions. The role also explores external best practice for the improvement of our internal plans.
- Site Engagement & Leadership: Support and advise the site environmental committees and conduct regular environmental walks to engage colleagues, identify opportunities for improvement, and foster a culture of environmental responsibility. Promote environmental and sustainability best practice and support the implementation of strategies, plans, processes and standards to improve our environmental performance in close collaboration with colleagues from across the business
- Legal & Environmental Risk Management: Support the Head of HS&E and the HS&E Business Partners to maintain the business and site level legal registers and ensure full compliance with Waste Duty of Care. You will also be the key point of contact for supporting environmental site inspections. Support the sites to manage trade effluent, PPC Permit compliance as well as relevant new requirements and the delivery of corrective actions as required.
- Environmental Management Systems: Support Internal stakeholders with the day-to-day management of our Environmental Management (ISO 14001) System, including reviewing and agreeing actions relating to the implementing of updates required by the new ISO 14001:2026 standard.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively conducting environmental related audits and supporting workplace inspections, recommending and supporting the implementation of both improvement opportunities and remedial actions. Support external audits and inspections across the site, recommending both improvement opportunities and remedial actions where standards are not being met.
- Data Accuracy & Reporting: Gather and analyse site environmental data for reporting purposes and identify opportunities for improvement, including ways to improve the accuracy and detail of environmental data.
- Incident Investigation: Support the site operational teams with specific environmental incident investigations to identify immediate and root causes and ensure corrective and preventative actions are in place.
- Training & Development: Preparing and delivering Environmental alerts, briefings, and training sessions including the delivery of mock drills as appropriate.
- Environmental Culture: Facilitating the promotion of a positive environmental culture within the site and wider functions across AG BARR. The role will liaise with the central Sustainability team in order to connect our corporate strategy to the opportunities for improvement at a site level.
What you’ll bring...
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Industry Experience: Experience in an Environmental discipline ideally gained within a fast-paced food and or soft-drinks manufacturing and or a logistics/distribution environment.
- Key Qualifications: A professional Qualification and or Degree within an Environmental discipline gained through any of the major governing bodies such as CIEH, NEBOSH, IEMA/ISEP. And can provide clear evidence of at least Technical membership, including demonstrable continuous professional development (cpd). Hold any other relevant and or specialist qualifications within environmental studies.
- Legislative Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of environmental legislation with proven experience working with environmental permits & compliance (PPC/EASR) and a solid understanding of UK environmental legislation (Waste Duty of Care, F-Gas etc).
- Engagement Skills: The ability to support committees and influence colleagues at all levels—from the shop floor to site leadership—to take ownership of environmental goals. Therefore being able to demonstrate sound communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders is required.
- Technical Literacy: Being PC and systems literate is essential, including supporting colleagues in the use of our central systems like our HSMS INTELEX.
- Audit Experience: Practical experience of implementing, maintaining and supporting stakeholders with ISO 14001 is highly desirable.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong skills in data collection and analysis, with a knack for identifying trends and finding smarter ways to report on environmental performance.
- Proactive Problem Solving: A hands-on approach in supporting the delivery of specific environmental infrastructure improvements and a commitment to improving environmental emergency response procedures and mitigation on site.
