Job Title: Mechanical Assembly Production Engineer
Department: Manufacturing Engineering
Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Assembly Production Engineer to support precision mechanical builds within a semiconductor cleanroom manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining assembly processes to ensure high-quality, repeatable production of semiconductor equipment and subassemblies.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with hands-on manufacturing experience and a solid understanding of cleanroom operations, contamination control, and process discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop, document, and maintain mechanical assembly processes for semiconductor equipment and precision subassemblies.
  • Create and update work instructions, process flows, torque specifications, and assembly standards.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives within cleanroom operations.

Production Support

  • Provide hands-on engineering support to cleanroom assembly teams.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by transitioning designs into stable production processes.
  • Evaluate tooling, fixtures, and equipment to improve ergonomics, repeatability, and throughput.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure assembly processes meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and cleanliness requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering to support inspections, nonconformance investigations, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Establish and monitor critical process parameters (CPPs) and quality metrics.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO standards, ESD controls, and cleanroom contamination-control protocols.

Documentation & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to review drawings for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Interpret and validate mechanical drawings, GD&T, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Customer Process Change Requests (PCRs) and revision control processes.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Quality, and Production teams to ensure alignment and on-time delivery.

Cleanroom & Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to semiconductor cleanroom standards, including gowning procedures and ESD controls.
  • Ensure tools, fixtures, and processes meet contamination control requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the manufacturing environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing engineering, or semiconductor equipment production
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, precision assembly, and torque-controlled fastening
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation
  • Experience developing work instructions and manufacturing process documentation
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience
  • Familiarity with cleanroom environments and ESD best practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with process validation, FMEA, PFMEA, and control plans
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES)
  • Experience designing or implementing custom assembly fixtures and tooling
  • Prior chemical or chemistry-related experience, particularly in environments involving process chemicals, contamination control, or semiconductor manufacturing

Work Environment

This position operates within a semiconductor cleanroom manufacturing environment. The role requires wearing cleanroom gowning and PPE for extended periods and may involve hands-on support on the production floor.
