What you’ll do

System Engineer and Feature/Function Owner for Vehicle Control Systems and Vehicle State Management Systems is responsible for defining, developing, and managing the electrical and electronic architecture of vehicle systems.  This role bridges systems engineering, software development, and cross-functional coordination to ensure functional integration and compliance with vehicle-level requirements.

Vehicle Control Functions Support 

Ownership of vehicle controls and state management functions means taking full accountability for the design, development, integration, validation, and performance of vehicle control related vehicle features—from concept through production and post-launch support that will involve:  REEV Feature Owner and System Architect, Vehicle State Management Function Owner/Partner, Vehicle Application Modes Function Owner/Partner and Vehicle Application Controls support. 

Project Timeline for Function Development 

Feature/Function Owner shall be responsible for the development, integration, and validation of all assigned vehicle control functions in accordance with the project timeline. Completion of functional deliverables shall align with the agreed project milestones, including but not limited to prototype builds, design verification (VFF), product validation (PVS), and vehicle launch gates. All function-level software, hardware, and test deliverables must be completed, reviewed, and approved by Scout at each milestone to enable seamless system integration and program readiness. 

Volume of Vehicle Controls Functions and Bill of Features 

This role will span across about 15 vehicle control applications/system functions and will require coordination with technical partners and integration team.   

Roles and Responsibilities 

Overview of the roles and responsibilities of the FO are listed below for reference (scope to be adjusted further along the program development based on need). 

  • Own the end-to-end functional architecture of vehicle control systems.  
  • Develop logical and physical EE architecture in coordination with system engineers and domain experts.  
  • Responsible for system level definition, requirements from EE, SW, ME and support EE, SW architecture design, integration at system, component level. Integral liaison between hardware, applications team, and core CFTs.  
  • Responsible for end-to-end delivery of key system functions with release to program milestones  
  • Collaborate with stakeholders through the system “V” development from concept to launch with design reviews and CFT.  
  • Responsible for functional, non-functional requirements, development, validation, and signoffs.  
  • Domain/working knowledge of SW controls, EE, Electronics, and expertise in development, testing and validation methods of mechatronics systems.  
  • Develop component and system design, functional, EOL specifications, detailed test methods and system level DFMEA, DV, PV for complex mechatronic systems.  
  • Analytical development using model-based design, MBSE/MBD simulation toolsets, MIL/SIL/HIL   
  • Be a champion of 1st principles design methodology and use extensive problem-solving methods for debugging, issue resolution.  
  • Develop and maintain Best Practices: Design Standards, Test Procedures, Technical Specifications, etc. 
  • Tool landscape familiar with JIRA, Confluence, Codebeamer, Preevision, CAMEO, Github, JFROG etc. 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Masters in EE/Mechanical/Mechatronics/EE/SW Engineering with 10+ yrs of experience 
  • Extensive experience working with Automotive Systems or Mechatronics Products, from Body, Infotainment, Drive or Energy.  
  • Strong understanding of 1st principles in Engineering, result/solution oriented  
  • Subject matter expert in Systems Engineering, Multi-domain physics, Complex systems design with EE, SW integration.  
  • Familiarity with SW for embedded systems, EE systems such as wiring and power distribution units.   
  • Familiarity with CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS communication protocols and Vehicle Network tools, such as CANalyzer, CANoe, etc.   
  • Expertise with complex problem solving, data analysis, access/interpret/drive results with extended teams.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
