Database Site Reliability Engineer

Verisign is looking for a Database SRE with experience managing and maintaining highly available large transaction volume databases. As a member of the Provisioning Operations Database Team, you’ll manage Oracle/Postgres DBs in support of key services that make the internet work. The ideal candidate will work with other DBA SREs, application engineers, Infrastructure teams, Security and Project Managers maintaining critical internet infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and support complex, mission-critical applications
• On-call support in a 24x7/365 operational environment
• Support Oracle and Postgres databases including installation of new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches
• Resolve software and hardware related problems
• Database monitoring, performance tuning, and administration
• Create shell, SQL and automation scripts
• Implement, maintain and test backup and recovery processes
• Enforce security measures to protect company data

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering/information systems or equivalent work experience
• 8+ years Production Support experience
• Expertise in Oracle and Postgres database administration, including building, Patching and upgrading
• Experience monitoring database growth and trends to ensure adequate capacity (memory, compute power and storage)
• Solid understanding and experience in security best practices for production databases
• Expertise in database replication technologies such as Oracle Dataguard, Dataguard Broker, Fast Start Fail Over and Golden Gate
• Performance tools AWR, ASH, and Oracle Enterprise Manager
• Expertise in Backup and Recovery RMAN, PGBackup
• Postgres Hot standby with streaming replication
• Strong skills with Linux/Unix operating system
• Scripting abilities including shell scripts, automation tools such as Ansible
• Ability to diagnose and correct problems

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

The pay range is $135,800 - $183,800.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
