About Abound

We’re redefining consumer lending in the UK, and beyond. Using advanced AI and Open Banking data, we make fair, affordable personal finance available to more people. While traditional lenders rely almost entirely on credit scores, we look at the full financial picture - how much you spend, and what you can afford to repay to build a deeper, more accurate understanding of each customer's unique financial situation.

And we've shown it works at scale. We’ve issued over £1.3bn in loans directly to customers while delivering market-leading credit performance - for every 10 defaults the industry expects, we see only 3. We also reached profitability just 2.5 years after launch.

Backed by £2bn+ of funding from top-tier investors including Citi, GSR Ventures, and Deutsche Bank, we’re recognised as one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintechs (Sifted, CNBC). Now, we’re expanding into new markets and product lines - and we’re looking for ambitious people who want to learn fast, take ownership, and grow with us.

We’re looking for a driven and commercially aware Compliance Officer to help support our next phase of growth while ensuring we continue to deliver good outcomes for our customers.

This is a broad and hands-on role where you’ll gain real exposure across the business, working closely with senior stakeholders and contributing directly to how we manage risk, compliance, and regulatory change.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own and deliver compliance monitoring – identify emerging risks, assess customer impact, and drive practical, proportionate remediation

  • Provide clear, actionable reporting – draft high-quality updates for senior management and the Board

  • Stay ahead of regulation – track FCA developments and translate them into clear, business-relevant actions

  • Maintain and strengthen our control environment – support the review and continuous improvement of policies and frameworks

  • Partner across the business – build strong relationships and act as a trusted advisor on compliance matters

  • Support customer outcomes – act as an escalation point for complex cases (e.g. complaints, fraud risk)

  • Contribute to financial crime oversight – support AML assessments and advise the MLRO

  • Work closely with the Chief Compliance Officer – provide input on regulatory risk, product development, and strategic initiatives

Who you are

You’ll either be:

  • Early in your compliance career (up to ~3 years’ experience), or

  • A strong academic candidate (numerate or legal degree) looking to move into financial services compliance

If you have experience, you’ll likely have gained exposure to compliance or controls within retail financial services, or in an operational role with a strong focus on customer outcomes.

What you bring

  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset – you don’t just identify issues, you help fix them

  • Working knowledge of relevant FCA Handbook requirements

  • Practical understanding of Consumer Duty and what good customer outcomes look like

  • Strong judgement and risk assessment skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism

  • Clear, confident communicator – comfortable engaging up to executive level

  • Strong written and numerical skills, including preparing Board-level materials

Why join Abound

  • Exposure to a high-growth fintech environment

  • Real impact – your work will directly influence customer outcomes and regulatory strategy

  • Close collaboration with senior leadership

  • Hybrid working with a London base

If you’re looking for a role where you can develop quickly, take ownership, and see the real-world impact of your work, we’d love to hear from you.

What we offer

  • Everyone owns a piece of the company - equity

  • Hybrid with 3 days a week in the office

  • 25 days’ holiday a year, plus 8 bank holidays

  • 2 paid volunteering days per year

  • One month paid sabbatical after 4 years

  • Employee loan

  • Free gym membership

  • Team wellness budget to be active together - set up a yoga class, a tennis lesson or go bouldering
