About the Role
We are looking for a senior Business Development Manager to drive and scale our card-acquiring business, with a strong focus on subscription and recurring payment models.
This is not a generic acquiring role. We are specifically looking for someone who understands the mechanics, risks, and economics of subscription businesses — including recurring billing logic, payment recovery strategies, and subscription-related chargebacks.
You will work with high-volume, subscription-based merchants, owning the full lifecycle from acquisition to scaling, while ensuring sustainable growth and controlled risk exposure.
Responsibilities
Build & Scale Subscription Acquiring Portfolio
- Develop and grow a portfolio focused on subscription and recurring merchants
- Identify, onboard, and scale high-volume subscription businesses
- Lead commercial negotiations (pricing, risk appetite, processing setup)
- Build long-term partnerships with merchants and ecosystem players
Optimize Recurring Payment Performance
- Improve the full recurring payment lifecycle:
- initial transactions (CIT)
- renewals (MIT)
- retries and dunning flows
- Increase approval rates, recovery rates, and overall transaction success
- Work with PSPs and orchestration providers to optimize routing and processing
Drive Business Metrics
- Monitor and improve transaction volume, approval rates, recurring success rate, and profitability
- Understand and influence churn through payment performance
Manage Subscription-Specific Risk
- Own acquiring risk for subscription merchants, including chargebacks and disputes
- Ensure compliance with Visa and Mastercard rules for recurring payments
- Identify and mitigate friendly fraud, trial abuse, and misuse of recurring billing
- Balance growth with portfolio health and scheme thresholds
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with risk, compliance, legal, and finance teams
- Evaluate subscription business models from both commercial and risk perspectives
- Contribute to improving acquiring processes and performance
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have
- Hands-on experience in card acquiring
- Proven experience with subscription / recurring payment models
- Strong understanding of:
- recurring billing (CIT / MIT, card-on-file)
- payment lifecycle (authorization, clearing, settlement)
- retries, dunning, and recovery logic
Risk & Scheme Knowledge
- Strong expertise in chargebacks, especially in subscription environments
- Solid understanding of Visa / Mastercard rules and thresholds
- Experience managing acquiring risk and portfolio performance
Commercial & Analytical Skills
- Ability to assess subscription business models (unit economics, churn, fraud risks)
- Strong analytical and structured thinking
- Experience working with high-volume merchants
Additional
