Our mission is to hasten the transition to universally accessible healthcare. We are authorised by governments to assess and grant market access to medical AIs. Our groundbreaking approach enables the most innovative technology to reach patients safely and quickly.

Scarlet is the pre-eminent authority on AI medical devices. We serve customers that matter. Companies building bleeding-edge medical AI systems choose Scarlet. We are proud to count the world’s best resourced and most ambitious companies building medical AI as customers. You will be joining a team with product-market fit, flowing data, and exponentially growing revenue.

Come help us bring the next generation of healthcare to the people who need it.

About the role:

Scarlet’s expert evaluators are an integral part of our ability to efficiently certify cutting-edge medical products. Today, we operate with an in-house team of assessors and auditors, supplemented by a network of deeply specialised, independent experts. As we scale, so will this network of independent experts, and the complexity of recruiting, qualifying, training, managing, and deploying them.

This is a foundational hire. You will own the design and build-out of our freelancer operating system - the people processes, tooling, and frameworks that determine how we attract, onboard, develop, and deploy the experts at the heart of our certification work. You will also hire some of our first freelancers yourself.

Who you are:

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience, ideally in start-up environments where you built out operating processes from 0-1.

  • EQ: You are a skilled relationship builder and reader of people. You will be expected to exercise strong judgment and build an intuitive understanding of what excellence and cultural fit look like. You also understand that the people in our network are experts with choices, and you know how to attract and retain them.

  • Operational excellence: You have high standards - you care deeply about the quality of work and the experience of the people doing it. You get a kick out of designing efficient processes and optimising workflows.

  • Self-starter: You like operating with autonomy and are comfortable navigating complexity - regulatory environments, multi-jurisdiction contracting, and technical subject matters do not intimidate you. You get energy from ambiguity and the chance to define something that doesn't yet exist.

  • Problem Solver: You approach problems from first principles and use logic to evaluate various candidate solutions.

  • Communication: You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Desired:

  • Experience specifically in people operations, HR, or a closely related field - ideally with exposure to contingent workforce, freelancer, or contractor management.

  • Understanding of global employment law and contracting considerations.

  • Experience within healthcare, or another regulated industry.

What the job involves:

This role will be responsible for building the freelancer operating system from scratch. It will involve a lot of cross-functional collaboration to ensure the process works for all teams it touches.

  • Build & automate end-to-end processes - from sourcing, qualifying, contracting, onboarding, authorising, scheduling, monitoring, performance management, and offboarding of freelance auditors.

  • Build our talent pipeline - identify and recruit the first cohort of freelance auditors, working closely with our technical and competence teams to define the right profiles. Eventually, build the systems to support international hubs of the best talent in the healthcare space.

  • Create scalable tooling and workflows - evaluate, implement, and iterate on the systems (ATS, contractor management platforms, communication tools) that will underpin the freelancer programme. When needed, call in help from our in-house engineers to build out dedicated tools.

  • Own compliance and contracts - work with legal to ensure our freelancer relationships are commercially sensible, support Scarlet’s objectives, and are structured correctly across different jurisdictions, reflecting Scarlet's regulatory obligations.

  • Operationalise training and competence maintenance - partner with the subject-matter experts within the team to design onboarding curricula and ongoing development pathways that keep our contractor auditors/assessors sharp and accredited.

  • Act as the relationship manager - be the primary point of contact for our freelancer network, resolving issues, gathering feedback, and continuously improving the experience.
