Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Production Lead to support day-to-day operations within a busy fabrication facility. This position plays a critical role in coordinating shop activities, guiding fabrication personnel, and helping ensure production goals are met while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in structural steel fabrication along with proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support daily production activities to help meet manufacturing schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Provide direction and leadership to fabrication personnel, including welders, fitters, and other shop team members.
  • Organize work assignments and allocate resources to maintain efficient workflow throughout the facility.
  • Offer technical assistance related to fabrication methods, welding procedures, layout work, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Address production challenges and help implement practical solutions to minimize disruptions.
  • Monitor shop progress and communicate production updates, concerns, and scheduling needs to management.
  • Promote compliance with company safety practices, quality requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to support equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized production environment.
  • Assist with employee onboarding, training, mentoring, and skill development initiatives.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to verify completed work meets project specifications and workmanship standards.
  • Support inspections, dimensional verification, and production documentation when required.
  • Perform additional supervisory and operational duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience leading or supervising teams within a structural steel fabrication environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of welding, fit-up, layout, and steel fabrication processes.
  • Experience operating or working alongside CNC fabrication equipment and related shop machinery.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from fabrication drawings, blueprints, and shop documents.
  • Understanding of manufacturing safety practices, quality control standards, and production workflows.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules based on production demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Tekla EPM/GO software.
  • Background overseeing structural steel projects in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
  • Experience coaching and developing fabrication personnel.
