Based in Washington D.C., the Managing Attorney work closely with the Director of Managing Attorney’s Offices to develop and implement best practices for electronic filing and docketing within the firm’s D.C. office.

This role reports to the Director of Managing Attorney’s Offices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review for accuracy, as to form and procedural compliance, all court documents served and/or filed through the Managing Attorney’s Office-D.C.
  • Conduct legal research to advise litigators on various procedural matters and to ensure compliance with court rules.
  • Provide procedural guidance to attorneys regarding motion practice, policies, and procedures in Washington, D.C. state and federal courts, as well as surrounding areas.
  • Assist with issues relating to service of process including engaging and coordinating with process servers.
  • Monitor new cases and rule changes to keep attorneys informed of recent developments under D.C. state rules, FRCP, and FRAP.
  • Assist with and handle electronic case filings via CM/ECF and state court systems, as well as coordinate hard copy filings and document retrieval as needed.
  • Retrieve and analyze information from court-related databases, websites, and relevant docketing and calendaring applications including, but not limited to, PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert and Westlaw.
  • Screen and review incoming court documents and correspondence to calculate and calendar relevant deadlines using the firm’s docketing system (CourtAlert).
  • Perform quality control reviews of docket and calendar entries to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure timely notification to attorneys of filing deadlines, court appearances, and other critical dates
  • Collect, maintain, and update attorney information, including bar admissions and e-filing credentials.
  • Assist with department projects and initiatives as needed

Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising staff within a Managing Attorney’s Office at a large law firm strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with attorneys, court personnel, and administrative staff.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and a collaborative team player.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Washington, D.C. federal and state court systems, including corresponding rules and procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to shifting demands.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Admission to Washington D.C. Bar required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a Managing Attorney’s Office at a large law firm.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $265K–325K. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
