Steel Assembly & Fabrication Specialist

Location: Arlington, TN
Pay Rate: Starting at $21.00/hour+ (based on experience)
Schedule: 2nd Shift | Monday–Friday | 4:00 PM – 3:00 AM
Occasional Saturday overtime may be required

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Steel Assembly & Fabrication Specialist to join a growing manufacturing team on second shift. This position plays a key role in the preparation, fitting, and assembly of structural steel components used in a variety of fabrication projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting fabrication drawings, laying out steel components, and preparing assemblies for welding while maintaining high standards for quality, accuracy, and workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret shop drawings, fabrication prints, weld symbols, and production specifications
  • Assemble and fit structural steel components according to design requirements
  • Work with beams, columns, stair systems, railings, and miscellaneous fabricated steel products
  • Measure, mark, align, and position materials to ensure proper fit and dimensional accuracy
  • Prepare components for welding through tack fitting and assembly verification
  • Confirm proper fit-up, alignment, and measurements before final welding operations begin
  • Operate fabrication equipment and machinery including:
    • Band saws
    • Magnetic drills
    • Grinders
    • Ironworkers
    • Plasma cutting systems
    • Oxy-fuel cutting equipment
    • Safely utilize hand tools, measuring instruments, and layout equipment required for fabrication work
    • Material Handling & Shop Support

      • Move and position steel materials using overhead cranes, rigging systems, and material handling equipment
      • Assist with production activities as needed to support workflow and delivery schedules
      • Maintain organization of materials, tools, and workstations throughout the shift
      • Support overall shop efficiency by assisting with fabrication-related tasks across departments when required
      • Quality & Safety

        • Inspect work for accuracy and compliance with fabrication specifications
        • Follow established safety procedures and best practices at all times
        • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area
        • Contribute to production goals while ensuring workmanship meets quality expectations

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in structural steel fabrication, fitting, or a related metal fabrication environment preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols
  • Experience performing layout, fitting, and assembly of steel components
  • Familiarity with fabrication equipment, hand tools, and precision measuring devices
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle heavy materials safely
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical work throughout a full shift
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and rigging equipment is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace safety procedures

Preferred Welding Experience

  • Previous experience with Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • Ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds on structural steel assemblies
  • Experience welding in multiple positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead applications
